The honest answer to “how long will my website take” is always “it depends” - but that's not a very useful answer on its own, so here's what it actually depends on, and the ranges we typically see.
The two broad bands
Most marketing and brochure-style sites - the kind built around a handful of pages, a content management system, and a design that reflects your brand - take around 4 to 8 weeks from kickoff to launch. More complex web applications or e-commerce platforms, where there's custom functionality, integrations, user accounts, or a catalog and checkout flow to build, typically take 8 to 16 weeks. Those ranges hold across most projects we take on, though the exact number always comes out of the discovery call, not a generic estimate.
What actually drives the schedule
- Scope clarity going in. Projects move fastest when the goals, target audience, and must-have features are settled before design starts. Scope that keeps shifting mid-project is the single biggest cause of timeline slippage - on any project, not just ours.
- Content readiness. Design and development can only move as fast as the underlying content - copy, images, product data - is ready. Projects where content is being written in parallel with design tend to stretch out waiting on pages that are technically “built” but have nothing to put in them.
- Integrations and custom logic. Connecting to payment providers, CRMs, booking systems, or building bespoke functionality adds real engineering time - and testing time - that a template-driven marketing site simply doesn't need.
- Review and feedback turnaround. How quickly your team can review drafts and give clear, consolidated feedback has a direct, often underestimated effect on the calendar. Slow or scattered feedback rounds add real weeks.
How the timeline maps to our process
Every website project moves through the same five stages, whether it lands at the shorter or longer end of the range: discovery and scoping, design, development, testing and QA, and launch and handover. You can see that process laid out in detail on our website development page. After a discovery call, we'll walk you through where your specific project is likely to fall and why - rather than a single number pulled out of the air.
